Every year, twice a year, Pitti Immaginne opens the Fortezza da Basso doors in Florence, Italy bringing together fashion professionals to present their new collections and network.

Furthering its mission of supporting ethical African brands, the Ethical Fashion Initiative by the ITC has partnered up with Fondazione Pitti Discovery, to organize the “Generation Africa” fashion show that showcases ethical African menswear brands at Pitti Uomo.

This year the catwalk gave way to a model roster that was less than ordinary with three asylum seekers aged 19 to 27 years old who had been living in Bologna, Italy since last May.

Their participation was organized by Lai Momo an Italian organization that works with migrants. Simone Cipriane, the Ethical Fashion Initiatives founder, told Refinery29.com, “We wanted to offer a different view of the problem of asylum seekers in Europe today and a practical solution to address it."

Here is a litte taste of what the catwalk had to offer.
