Umtha (which means “ray of light” in the local Xhosa language) is a fair trade jewellery business handcrafting beaded jewellery since 1992.

Our vision is to design and produce quality, innovative jewellery with a proudly South African flair to a variety of customers across the world. It is also our vision to provide employment opportunities for low-skilled, previously disadvantaged South Africans and foreigners with refugee status.

We aim to make a difference in peoples lives particularly those who have limited fair wage job opportunities. We train mainly women to produce our beautiful jewellery designs and at any given time we can have four different languages spoken in our building!
